This is an editorial practice work about Asian Americans that are underrepresented in leadership due to the common experience of being confused for someone of the same ethnicity. This phenomenon even has a name called the ‘Interchangeable Asian’. Although not in the workplace, I have also had the same experience. One of my classmates we had studied together for 1.5 years when I was in the UK can't tell me and another Taiwanese woman apart, and she keeps calling me the wrong name. I corrected her in private and she said with joy that it's because we look similar and tiny, even though we look nothing alike and have almost a head's difference in height.
